Thunder 89.7 is not just another radio station; we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization entirely run by dedicated volunteers. Our mission is to bring something unique and unparalleled to the airwaves, a sound that cannot be found anywhere else on the dial. While you may recognize some songs we play from other stations, we pride ourselves on offering a diverse mix that includes songs you won’t hear anywhere else. Thunder 89.7 features a blend of classic hits, classic rock, alternative, country (including Texas country), lite rock, and new music. Variety is at the heart of what we do here at Thunder 89.7, ensuring there’s something for everyone. But why the name “Thunder”?

We wanted a name that stood out, one that wasn’t already widely used by other stations across America. Thunder resonated with us because, while it’s primarily associated with rain, here in Craig, we experience “thunder snow.” Yes, it’s not common, but it is possible to witness thunder during snowy conditions. We believe the name Thunder captures the essence of our station throughout the year. When we launched Thunder 89.7, it was accompanied by the iconic song “FM (No Static at All)” by Steely Dan. This marked a turning point as we overtook a frequency that was previously just static. As fate would have it, a thunderstorm rolled in behind Craig on that very day, setting the perfect backdrop for the birth of Thunder 89.7.
